NYC Diesel Strain Review – Bonza Blog

Loved by creative individuals for its exotic smell, taste, and effects, NYC Diesel is one of the most popular hybrids in the world. As prominent as it is, there is still a vague understanding of its origin.

A famous story that has been going around for years goes like this. Reportedly, the genetics of this marijuana plant started at the Big Apple way back in 1992 when two friends met up in Central Park. A bad of seeds was given by one to the other, Sacred Soma Seeds. Using the cannabis grown from the seeds, the breeder then crossed it with an Afghani and a Hawaiian strain.

Of course, that story appears to be nothing more than a tall tale. As Soma Sacred Seeds explained, they first started developing the strain back in 1997. By 1999, they were able to stabilize it, so they began producing its seeds. In 2001, 9-11 happened. So, they decided to name this hybrid NYC Diesel. On its genetic origin, it is actually a cross between an Afghani and a Mexican strain.

While Afghani Indica is best known for sedating properties, and deep relaxation, NYC Diesel inherited more of the Sativa traits of the pure Mexican breed. As a result, much of its effects are mental. In fact, it is one of the best hybrids to use in a social gathering.

Make no mistake about it. NYC Diesel is one of the best that there ever is. It also has numerous awards all over the world including winning the Cannabis Cup five times.

Odor and Flavors

In some ways, one can say that Sour Diesel has a generally pleasing smell, but not everyone will appreciate. For some, the pungent odor of diesel and earth may take a bit of time getting used to. NYC Diesel, on the other hand, is an enormous improvement over its predecessor. It comes with a distinct note of red grapefruit, not only in its aroma but also in how it tastes. As a result, most people have the urge to take one more toke, again and again.

Effects

The effects induced by NYC Diesel leans more towards its Sativa side. At its onset, the energizing buzz it delivers not only uplifts the spirit but also causes a euphoric cerebral buzz. Besides feeling their head clearing, most users also tend to have amplified senses. For the creatives, there is a never-ending inspiration as ideas form one after the other.

In a social gathering, people using NYC Diesel who are already on a euphoric high tend to be talkative. Considering that it keeps people on the go, it would make for an excellent daytime strain, that is until its Indica side creeps into the body.

As mentioned earlier, one of its parents is an Afghani Indica. These are very potent strains found in the Hindu Kush region and are known for deep relaxation. NYC Diesel also took the same traits can quickly put people at ease. However, it does not seem to cause the same heavy sedation as its predecessor. Use a little bit more than necessary, though, then it may lead to laziness.

Growing NYC Diesel

For most growers, including the beginners, there is no reason not to successfully cultivate this cannabis plant. However, there is a learning curve as well as advanced methods that can help nurture it to its full potential.

Opting to plant NYC Diesel indoors, growers will have to prepare a sizable area as it can reach 150 cm. It is possible to keep it a little bit shorter, but that is where expertise comes in. Like typical Sativa plants, it has a flowering time that falls between 10 to 12 weeks. Once ready for harvest, growers can expect an abundant yield of more than 400 grams per square meter.
